The Lord is my Shepherd

I love seeing each day how God is guiding and shepherding our moments to meeting new people and having new experiences along this journey. I bought a new bible study before I was admitted, Psalm 23 by Jennifer Rothschild, and though its such a familiar and beloved chapter over the course of my life, God as He always does is making it come alive more than ever in these days.

Yesterday, we got clearance for me to be able to walk downstairs to a family-based center called, Emmett’s Place. A family who had walked through a situation here with their little baby worked together with the Ronald McDonald House to create a space where families going through tough situations could come and have a space to relax, have homemade food brought daily by volunteers, books, games, free laundry, tv and recliner chairs. It felt like Jonny and I had gone into a different world for an hour or so and were so blessed to not only be enjoying the amenities, but also meeting other families who are doing through tough times.

We met Devon, Amanda and heard about their new little one, Ellie. Ellie is a newborn who was a triplet, but is the only survivor of the three. They lost a little girl 5 weeks before delivery, and a little boy two weeks after birth. The hospital helped to support them in having a service here and their Pastor came and did the service. Jonny and I were broken hearted for the journey they have been on, but at the same time hugely blessed to meet such a sweet couple leaning into the Lord in such a real way. We had such a fun time talking with them and hope to see them again when we get a chance to go back down to Emmett’s Place again soon.

As I was spending time with the Lord this morning, Jennifer helped us to personalize Psalm 23 just for us. It touched me to see and read this aloud. Perhaps you’d like to put your name in too as you remember the deep reality of God being Your Shepherd in whatever you are walking through today!

The Lord is Hannah’s Shepherd,
she has all that she needs.
He makes Hannah lie down in green pastures;
He leads Hannah beside the still waters.
He restores Hannah’s soul;
He leads Hannah in the paths of righteousness
for His name’s sake.

Yea, though Hannah walks through the valley
of the shadow of death,
she will fear no evil;
For her Shepherd is with her.
His rod and His staff, they comfort Hannah.

The Shepherd prepares a table before Hannah
in the presence of her enemies;
He anoints Hannah’s head with oil;
her cup runs over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow Hannah
all the days of her life.
And Hannah will dwell in the house of the Lord
Forever.
